Max O’Donnell is a changeling, a faerie child raised by human parents. Neither fae nor human, he doesn't really fit in anywhere. It is a challenging life, but it does have a few perks. Using the few gifts he retained from his fae origins, Max makes a living by taking advantage of those people "with more money than sense."
Not usually one to stoop to stealing cars, Max makes an exception after being nearly run over while crossing the street. In an attempt to teach the jerk a lesson, Max steals the guy's car.
Unfortunately, he didn't bother to check the back seat.

Play Date mixes a modern action storyline of a thief/con artist with the world of fantasy. The main character is extremely likeable but I don't know why because he is really a pompous, teenage boy with a heart of gold. Perhaps it's the charming spell coming through. Richmond Virginia provides a great scenic backdrop to Max's adventures and the details of the city help ground the story in the modern world. This helps make the fantasy elements of fairy creatures among us seem more plausible. I will say I am biased because it's my hometown so the neighborhood descriptions make me nostalgic. The other characters fill out a great cast of players and Lynn's writing makes you want to know more about all of them.The one negative I have is that I would have liked the book to be longer. Give more back story, more insight and maybe some more tension surrounding the major conflict. I have a sneaking suspicion that Lynn does have book two in the works and I can't wait to read it!

Easy read, interesting story, trite but pleasant characters. I am required to write eight more words but don't have anything more to say.
This genre of fiction isn't one that I normally read or even care about, frankly. But Mr. Lynn does a masterful job of drawing you in, and making the characters seem all too real, with a plot that isn't predictable and remains plausible. (Well, as plausible as it can be while discussing fairies , I guess!)
Great story. Easy read with an open but happy ending. Looking forward to more works by Lynn.
I sincerely hope this is the beginning of a wonderful series. I was hooked from the first word.
Fun read! From the city that is the setting and he knows the town well. I liked the fantastical mixed with the realism. Trust there is more to come!
I enjoyed this book about a Changeling (fae child brought up as a human) using his fae "powers" to do good and help a little boy and his mother get out of a bad situation. This book was short, but I could see it easily becoming a longer book and/or series.
I don't typically read what I would consider fantasy fiction, but I was pleasantly surprised by the genre. Play Date is an interesting mix of real-world people, places, and scenarios with fantastical characters and attributes, which I believe made the novella more approachable for someone like me.
The story moves along at a pleasant pace and is easy to read. I would like to see a little more out of the ending, as well as more development for characters like Felix and the pay-day loan running leprechaun. I guess I'll have to wait for Jay Lynn's next work for those.
